In recent years soprano Kristina Hansson has emerged as one of Sweden’s most interesting young singers. A convincing stage persona combined with an irresistible timbre and technical excellence has made her equally appreciated on opera stages and in concert halls.
Kristina studied at the Piteå Music Academy, the Malmö College of Music and the University College of Opera in Stockholm. She has received numerous prestigious awards, e.g. the Jenny Lind Award, the Royal Academy of Music Baroque Award and the Christina Nilsson Award. Kristina was also a semi finalist in Placido Domingo’s Operalia 2002, the year after her début at the Stockholm Royal Opera.
Since then Kristina has built a varied repertoire of opera roles, including a.o. Konstanze (Die Entführung), Amina (La Sonnambula), Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Sophie (Die Rosenkavalier), Zdenka (Arabella), Gilda (Rigoletto), Elisa (Il ré pastore), Le feu/Le rossignol (L’enfant et les Sortilèges) at opera houses in Sweden and abroad, such as Stockholm Royal Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Drottningholm Court Theatre, Malmö Opera, Piteå Chamber Opera, Oper Leipzig, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova and festivals like Innsbrucker Festwochen and Händel-festspiele in Göttingen.
In spring 2010 Kristina sang Asteria (Tamerlano) at the Händel-festspiele in Göttingen and other highlights during the season were Brahms Requiem with Michael Schönwandt and Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Carmina Burana with Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and a string of concerts performing Ludwig Irgens Jensen’s Japanischer Frühling, on tour with Nordic Chamber Orchestra and later with Västerås Sinfonietta. She has also participated in a cross over project with Swedish world musician Ale Möller, centered on the human voice.
Kristina Hansson’s large and varied concert repertoire encompasses all standard works for lyrical soprano and she had notable success singing Mozart concert arias with Danish Radio Sinfonietta and conductor Adam Fischer. Other conductors to be mentioned are a.o. Siegfried Köhler, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Michael Schönwandt, Hannu Lintu, René Jacobs, Christophe Rousset, Adam Fischer, Arnold Östman and Alessandro de Marchi.
No stranger to contemporary music, Kristina has participated in several world premieres of contemporary operas singing roles written specifically for her, such as Julie in K – Description of a struggle by Jan Sandström for Gothenburg Opera and Isabella in Carl Unander Scharin’s The Sleep Clinic.
Engagements in 2011 include Christus am Ölberge with The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Paul Mägi, Mozart Concert Arias with Uppsala Chamber Orchestra and Ewa Strusinska and JS Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard.
